more of the same

Monday, April 28th, 2008

There wasn’t anything too special about today. Just hanging out and following the routine.

Hadley was pretty good, well, as good as usual, so take that for what it’s worth. Zoey is still playing the sleep and puke game. She’s also starting to want to be held all the time. I know it’s frustrating for Lindsey when she’s trying to eat or play with Hadley and Zoey wants to be held.

When I got home from work, I was exhausted and just wanted to pass out. Hadley, believe it or not, had other plans. We wrestled and had tickle fights for awhile and then had dinner. Hadley ate a taco, some beans and rice, a helping of nachos and a piece of cake (compliments of Gerry Ray). Lindsey said she hadn’t eaten much for lunch, so it really wasn’t a big surprise.

After dinner, Hadley took a bath and did great! She let me was her hair and enjoy playing with the bubbles. When bath time was over, we got pjs on and cuddled on the couch for awhile. Hadley got her singing bear out and kept playing Itsy Bitsy Spider and Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes over and over again. It’s pretty cute, though, since she gets really excited about the songs and she tries to sing along while doing the motions.

The girls went to bed and Rusty stopped by to pick up some stuff. He’d never seen the house before, so I gave him the tour. When we got to Zoey’s room, there was Hadley, just standing in there like nothing had happened.

I put her back in bed and then showed Rusty the upstairs. Once there I found the trash dumped out, the trash can upside down in front of the tv (a stepstool) and Hadley’s sippy cup that she had taken to bed with her. Apparently she didn’t want to go to bed and decided to sneak upstairs for a little television.

Grilling out

to puke or not to puke... We had many little blessings to be thankful for today. First, Zoey slept all the way through class this morning, which meant that I got to stay and listen to the whole thing! This hasn’t happened for two weeks, because Zoey wants to eat right in the middle. It was really nice to make it through the whole time today. Hadley of course, enjoyed her bible class. She always does.

Then, Eric cooked a wonderful lunch for us girls. We at delicious bacon and eggs with toast. It was very good. Not only did he cook, but he also cleaned up. And not just cleaning up as in clearing the dishes from the table, but also vacuuming, cleaning up the grease, and even doing the dishes. (Hadley helped with this too!)

Next, the girls laid down to take naps so I got to take one too.

This is where the plan went a little awry. Zoey wasn’t in a deep sleep, so she woke up, and Eric selflessly took care of her instead of taking a peaceful nap himself.

Then I woke up to Hadley jumping on the bed and sitting on my head, while rolling around and giggling. Needless to say, this is not how I prefer to be woken up. After a while, I got over being mad at her. (It is those big doe eyes, cute little ringlets and her adorable smile.)

Hadley got to go on a walk with dad in the afternoon, and Zoey came grocery shopping with mom. After meeting back at home we grilled out with the Schwarz family. Hadley was ecstatic to see the boys and the kids played and had fun together. The food was again delicious.

Cleaning day

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

blue eyes Hadley was mommy’s little helper today. We cleaned the whole house, top to bottom. It was done in twenty minute increments and lasted the whole day, because Zoey decided to be a little snacker. She was having difficulty deciding when she really was hungry, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t try to eat at least every hour.

At the end of the day the house sparkled…and then we ate spaghetti for supper. It sure was nice while it lasted. We also had pineapple, which left smudges and sticky fingerprints everywhere Hadley touched on her way to her bath. (Which you might think shouldn’t be much going the 10 steps from the table to the bathroom, but Hadley can do the unthinkable.)

Eric worked for a portion of the evening taking pictures for the prom, so the girls got some good cuddle time. We watched a movie and cuddled on the couch until bedtime.

Date night

Friday, April 25th, 2008

hadley with her purse
zoey in her purse Tonight was the first date night that Eric and I have had for a long time. Granted, we were only gone for a little over an hour…and all we did was go out to eat and rent some movies…but still we were out of the house with no kids.

The day was uneventful, and mostly rainy and cold, so no one got to go outside. These days of being stuck indoors are getting more difficult, and the playdoh is well used.

Hadley and Zoey got two packages in the mail this week. One was from our friends Tom and Kortney and they sent the most adorable purses for the girls. The next came on Friday at lunch and was filled with all kinds of goodies from Nana.

One of the gifts for Hadley was so good she refused to take a nap because she was so excited. Mr. Potato Head may have beaten out the Playdoh. Hadley for some reason calls the carrot an airplane, and she really loves to put their faces on.

I do have to say, I am thankful for the new toys for Hadley, because the weather forecast isn’t looking too great for this next week.

Up All Night

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

wide awake So Hadley decided to be up from 2am to 5am.

That was pretty fun, considering that Zoey is sleeping more than Hadley at this point. We really can’t figure out what her problem is. She comes up with all sorts of excuses like, “There’s a choo-choo train, I have to go potty, my baby’s crying, I want to watch cartoons, etc…”.

After that exhausting night, the girls had a good day. Hadley played with Play-Doh for awhile and Zoey did her sleep/eat thing. The weather couldn’t decide if it was going to rain or not, so the girls stayed inside most of the day.

When I got home, Hadley kept telling me she was tired, so I of course, attempted to manipulate this into some way for me to take a nap. She wanted me to lay in bed with her, but once I did, she proceeded to jump on me, play with Dignan and poke me eyes. Some nap.

I held Zoey for awhile and she faded in and out of naps. In the short times a day that she is awake, she looks around and takes everything in with her big dark eyes. Lindsey says that people are biased into thinking that their babies are cute, but that anyone would have to say that Zoey was cute. I agree. What a good looking family, at least in the female department.

Bedtime went fairly smooth. Hadley got up for an hour, which seems bad, but is better than some nights and she was asleep before LOST started, so really that was the important thing.

Missing Mommy

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

I came home from work this morning so that Lindsey could go get her haircut. Lately, Hadley has really had separation anxiety toward me and anytime I come home, she wants to hug me and play with me. So, Lindsey leaves and Hadley has a complete mental breakdown. She has been around Lindsey everyday for the past 3 weeks, so she definitely is used to having her mommy around. I busted out the Legos and everything was fine.

Zoey started crying, so I held her on the couch for awhile. Hadley decided this was the best time to get Zoey’s bathtub out of the bath and bring it into the living room. She put her baby on it, got a washcloth, got it wet and then proceeded to give her baby a bath. It was pretty darn cute. Next, I told her she needed to dry her baby off, so she went and got a towel and then did her best to dry off the baby. Just when it couldn’t get any better, Hadley takes out a bottle, sits on the couch next to me, props her arm with a pillow and feeds her baby. What a kid.

The girls brought me McDonald’s for lunch today. It was nice having them stop by and to get to spend some time with them. That and McDonald’s is also a plus. Zoey was fine and let Christina hold her for awhile, but then decided that it was Screamfest 2008. Hadley ate all of her food and enjoyed some gummy bears for dessert.

The evening went fairly smooth. Linds wasn’t feeling great, so Emily and Glenn took Hadley to church and I spent some time with Zoey. She slept on and off in my arms and gave me some smiles. She’s a wonderful baby, although, compared to Hadley, any child is a wonderful baby.

walk to the park

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

girls going for a walk Today was a beautiful, sunny day. We got to go outside and do a lot of walking. This did serve it’s purpose of tiring Hadley out, but she still did not go to bed early tonight.

Hadley was very occupied today with her baby doll and carried it nearly everywhere that she went. She also was very excited about playing with the ladybugs on the porch. She even put one of them in the seat in the stroller.

Hadley took a brief nap today, and kept moving right along into the afternoon. Pretty soon it was time for Daddy to come home, so we thought we would walk to meet him. Hadley walked the whole way to daddy’s office and back. Shortly after that she walked all the way up to the park.

big girl

Zoey’s first trip to the park was short lived, because she got hungry. Zoey did however make up for a lot of Hadley’s lost sleep. She slept in her crib, her bouncy seat, her swing, and her sling. She also cuddled and slept in mommy’s arms and Hadley’s arms. The highlight of her day might have been laying on her frog mat. Hadley showed her what everything was and how to shake the rattle so they make noise.

Zoey did stay awake at lunch time long enough to see her daddy.

Hopefully the weather is nice again tomorrow because then the girls will help mommy weed the garden and get it ready for some planting.

The windy city

Monday, April 21st, 2008

mommy & zoey Today was the first day that I felt brave enough to venture out to Walmart with both girls and no help. We learned a couple of things. First, it is not a good idea to take these trips when the wind is blowing hard enough that one might expect a tornado, typhoon, or hurricane to hit. Second, I am not ready to take up running. I did not run by my choosing, it happened when the cart went blowing away from me as I loaded the girls up in their car seats. Third, there is a limit to what you can buy when you have a toddler buckled in the child seat, and an infant in her car seat in the cart.

I will say that there was a lot going on in one thirty minute period.

When we got home we settled in to make some lunch and take naps. I took advantage of the quiet time and got the house cleaned, and even was able to read a few articles in a magazine by the time the girls woke up.

The day turned out to be pretty peaceful.

Daddy Skateboards too.

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

chillin with the boys After church this morning Eric had some friends over from Fremont to go skating. It has been about two years since he has been able to have a day with friends just skating around town. Hadley was really excited to see some of her daddy’s moves and talked a lot about “daddy skateboards too.”

As much as Hadley wanted to go with, she was happy to stay at home with mommy and Zoey. She helped get lunch ready and also helped with supper. Hadley did a fantastic job of helping grill and sat outside with the boys as the chicken cooked. Hadley was very sad to see everyone go.

Zoey on the other hand, did what she always does…slept.

More Papa and Grandma Time

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

hadley & papa zoey & grandma

The day started off early because Eric had to work, and the girls were up and ready to tag along. There were two houses that the home owner no longer wanted, so some local firemen were “practicing” and burned down the houses. Eric had to go get video, so we all walked over to the fire to watch the action. Hadley enjoyed it, and we used it as a time to teach her about some fire safety, and that firemen are nice. If you have a conversation with her she may tell you about fire making houses fall down, and nice firemen.

We were also blessed with warm weather, and with a visit from Grandma and Papa. Hadley enjoyed going to the park with Papa, and she walked there all by herself! She has really become quite the little adventurer lately. Everywhere she can walk she wants to, which leaves little use for the stroller these days. We have also found it to be useful when we need to wear her out for a good long nap.

We also were blessed with Papa building us a nice new grill. Tonight we went to eat at Chances ‘R’, so we will have to wait to fire it up until tomorrow.

Laundry day

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Today was a dreary, rainy day. We got up and went to church for my ladies bible class. Hadley had fun playing with some of the other kids and Zoey slept most of the time. She did wake up long enough to vomit, and then fell back asleep. We are still having problems with her spitting up (more than what is normal for an infant) but she is gaining weight, so that is good.

The rest of the day was spent putting Hadley down for a nap, feeding Zoey, and doing three loads of laundry which Zoey accumulated single handedly after all of her vomiting episodes. It may seem like getting Hadley down for a nap would be the least time consuming of the list, but that is incorrect. It took over an hour to get her to stay in bed and then another 45 minutes to eventually drift off into her peaceful sleep. Of course, Zoey slept until Hadley feel asleep, and then it was time for Zoey to wake up and eat.

Each of the girls got some 1:1 time with mommy before it was time for daddy to come home. After being cooped up inside today, we are desperately hoping for warm weather tomorrow. Eric will be gone all day long, so we will have to stay busy!

Goodbye Nana

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

running over dad Lindsey took the girls to Lincoln today to drop Nana off at the airport.

Everything was going good until Hadley was told to say goodbye. Hadley responded by having a complete mental breakdown. She definitely enjoyed the time she had this week, and by time, I mean constant one-on-one attention. It really was great having Nancy staying with us. She was an awesome help and it was nice to be able to go to work and know that someone was going to be at home helping Lindsey.

I got home from work and was completely exhausted. Hadley of course immediately asked me to take her to the park. After taking a quick break, we went outside with her trike and tried to work on pedaling. She’s been doing awesome inside pedaling around here and there, but once we were outside, she just wanted to sit on her trike and push it with her feet. Oh, well. As long as she’s having fun, I don’t care.

Zoey had a good afternoon. She played outside with Lindsey and Hadley and enjoyed a walk around town. She seems to be getting along ok, but still has some problems spitting up.

She went down with only a few setbacks tonight. She needed her baby, then her “stars” went out, but after threatening the stars, she finally passed out. Zoey, on the other hand, decided that she didn’t want to sleep. After cuddling with Lindsey for awhile, she finally fell asleep and now it’s time for us to try and get some Z’s before either of the kids decide its time to get up.

going for a walk

Monday, April 14th, 2008

riding on dad's back Finally a nice day.

We got the girls together and went for a walk through the park. About halfway through, we stopped and let Hadley play on the swing. She also loved chasing me around and climbing on my back.

Zoey spent the trip cuddled up in Lindsey’s sling snoozing. Big surprise.

When we got home, I played with Hadley in her room. I fell asleep in her bed and awoke to her poking my eyes with her fingers asking, “Eyes?” Lindsey made chicken and french bread for dinner and Hadley continued to eat like a horse. She must be going through a growth spurt, because she’s been eating so much lately.

Bed time wasn’t as bad as usual. It only took Hadley getting up 4 times to go to bed. Three of the times, though, were because she has a toy in her bed that shines stars on the ceiling and its timer shut off. She opens the door and says, “Stars on.”

I guess if that’s the worst thing I have to deal with, I can’t complain.

another exciting day

ready for church Hadley was up early this morning ready to go to church and class. She had a difficult time sitting still through church but overall did OK.

Zoey on the other hand vommited all over herself and her carseat. Luckily, we were prepared for such an event. She was a complete angel, but a little uncomfortable sitting in her mess until we could take her to the nursery to clean her up.
zoey and nana
We also were lucky enough to enjoy a brunch at Chances ‘R’ and Hadley ate like the bottomless pit that she is.

Hadley gave Daddy a hard time this afternoon with refusing to take a nap. Nana, Mommy and Zoey had taken a run to walmart, and by the time they got home, Daddy looked very worn down. Hadley on the other hand was jumping on her bed and laughing, screaming, and playing. Eventually she did pass out watching Elmo. (Mommy knew this would happen if she gave her milk and told her to relax).

The rest of the day was just relaxing, but of course there was more Play-doh.

As of right now, it is half past nine, and Hadley is still awake. She is singing in her room, and asking questions of whoever will listen. Zoey is of course, sleeping.

Shopping

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

Today we went back into Lincoln and went shopping. Again, Zoey slept most of the day away. Hadley, however, had more fun and excitement than she knew what to do with. We started off at Target, and eye's open she was spoiled rotten by Nana with new bubbles, books and everything in between. She went to the bathroom probably about 5 times during our stay at Target, but each time she went potty and kept her pull ups dry!

We then moved on to lunch, where Hadley was a little rowdy, but we managed to leave the restaurant with doing minimal damage.

From there the real fun began when we went to the mall. Hadley rode the carousel 3 times! The first time she cried when she had to get off. We moved on and she pushed the stroller around the mall. She also got to eat a caramel apple, a smoothie, and endless candy. She also went to the bathroom numerous times during our stay at the mall, and she managed to stay dry! We then moved on to the play area at the mall, where she climbed around and then rode nearly every little ride there was.

Since she was having such a successful day with potty training I decided to get her a special treat, and we went to a build a bear workshop. She picked a cute little kitty that she dressed like a ballerina.

Hadley then got to ride the carousel one last time before we left. As soon as we got into the car Hadley passed out and slept peacefully the whole way home.

Trains, planes and automobiles

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Today we took an adventurous trip to the Lincoln airport to pick up Nana. The winds were blowing and nearly blew us off the road, but we took our time and got there safe. Hadley talked the whole way about getting to see the airplanes and was excited that Nana was coming to stay at her house. Zoey slept the entire way, which made our trip a lot easier.

Nana came bearing gifts, and Hadley looked like a little princess in her dress that Nana brought her. She even delicately twirled around to show off how cute she looked.

The rest of Hadley’s day was spent playing with Play-doh, which is her new favorite activity. Zoey’s day was uneventful. She might have been awake for 2 hours total; But it was enough to meet her Nana.

Sweet Dreams

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

eating lemons Today was Lindsey’s first day home with the girls by herself. I think she was a little apprehensive, but overall they all did great!

Hadley played with play-doh for a long time, played with mom and read books. Zoey spent most of the day sleeping, as usual, but she got to ride in the swing for awhile and seemed to enjoy that.

Hadley also helped Linds clean her room and get her toys and PJ’s put away into her new bed’s drawers. Lindsey was blessed in the afternoon with both girls taking long naps, which gave her some much needed rest of her own.

Dawson, Makai and Lael came over tonight and played for awhile. The kids were pretty out of control and hyper, but they don’t see each other that much anymore, so some hyperness is expected. The kids had their usual room destruction and toy chaos, but I think they were glad to be together again.

Snow is on the way tonight, so we’ll have to see if Nana makes the trip tomorrow. Hopefully everything works out, because we are excited for her to be here and to meet Zoey!

Lawrence Welk Anyone?

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Grandma Eckert taught Hadley the cutest song ever from the Lawrence Welk show. She sings along happily with the most adorable little voice!!! We were very blessed this last week to not only have grandma to teach us new songs but also to keep up with laundry (Zoey has quite the gag reflex) and deep clean the house. Not only did she perform all of those tasks but she also helped potty train, gave baths, and generally just did it all.

We were all very sad to see her go.

One of the highlights of the day was while I was getting supper ready. I stood at the kitchen window and watched Hadley run down the street towards her daddy. He was walking home from work and she and grandma went to meet him. Her little ringlets were bouncing happily as she jumped into his arms and gave a big squeeze. Watching this little moment was the highlight of the week. (other than finally meeting little Zoey!)

Tomorrow will be a little scary, since it is the girls first day alone with their mommy, but Friday, more help will come when Nana’s plane arrives at noon.

Thank God for Grandma’s and Nana’s.

“NO, NO nap”

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

what a girl Hadley started off the morning great. We all got showered and dressed and went on a walk in the balmy weather to visit Daddy at work. After stopping for a short while to say hello, we headed back home and started making lunch. Eric came home to eat lunch and spend some time with the family before heading off to another hectic afternoon at the office.

Hadley decided she didn’t need a nap and told me repeatedly “no, no nap!” An hour later, I opened her door to find that she was in fact not sleeping, but playing with her kitchen. (and no, she didn’t even bother making her mom a snack.)

Shortly after, Hadley came out to play with grandma. They played play-doh and then I turned in to take a nap. (Someone in the house might as well get a little sleep.) While I napped the weather warmed up and Hadley got to go outside to play. She even got to go to the park.
swinging with dad
Meanwhile, Zoey took her first trip out to Starbucks and Walmart. She was an angel and made shopping easy!

Despite a sleepless day, Hadley had a pretty good night.

Time out

Monday, April 7th, 2008

sleeping beauty Well today Hadley spent a lot of her time in time out. She started off having a good morning, but did not take an adequate nap, and that did her in for a rotten afternoon. She did get to spend some quality time with grandma, and she really enjoyed that.

In the morning Hadley went to the recycling center with grandma and enjoyed putting the cans in the bin. They went to the store next and decided they wanted sloppy joes for lunch. Hadley also helped do laundry and clean the basement.

In the evening time Zoey got her first bath at home. Hadley was a BIG helper. She went and got a new diaper for Zoey and some wipes too. She loved watching her take her bath. Zoey on the other hand was not so fond of bath time. There were a few moments when she calmed down and seemed to enjoy it, but for the most part it was not her greatest moment in the day.

Zoey is spitting up a lot, so until that is under control, she will have to adjust to bath time.

New Bed

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

We had been trying to figure out what to do for Hadley’s bed once Zoey came. My dad offered to make a bed for Hadley, so that sounded like the best/most cost effective idea.

The bed wasn’t actually quite done when Zoey showed up, so Hadley’s just been sleeping on her new mattress, which is plenty fine for her. As long as she has something to jump on, she’s satisfied.
new bed
Well, on Sunday, Papa brought Hadley her new bed and she seemed pretty excited. She definitely loves the storage space and being able to have 1,000 stuffed animals on her bed at one time. The large drawers are going to be great when it comes to getting some toys and clothes put away.

Zoey is still doing good. I would say that she spends her days eating and sleeping, but it’s more like sleeping and doing other things while sleeping. We were concerned that she is going to get day and night confused, but apparently, she just sleeps no matter what time it is.

She is a little cuddle bug and I love it. Hadley was never much into just sitting and cuddling, so I will have to take advantage of this with Zoey.

We had Emily & Glenn over for supper and it was nice for the whole family to get to spend time together.

Sleepless nights

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

potty chart Well, Zoey’s first night home was a little rough. She fussed through most of the night, which made it difficult for me to sleep. It was also quite cold in the house, and it was decided that she probably felt chilly for most of the night.

Zoey and Hadley got to visit for a while with one of Eric’s old friends Sam, his fiance, Laura, and Gerry Ray. Hadley was busy most of the day with Grandma. She played outside, went for walks, did yard work and went to the park. She took a good nap (and so did I) but was worn down from all the events of the day. Hadley is also doing better potty training, although she is using it as an excuse to get out of bed at night.

Hadley got to have a special date with Grandma in the evening. She went to Songfest up at the college and watched the kids sing and dance. Hadley was very animated in telling us about it, but they didn’t stay long, because Hadley had to go potty twice in about 30 minutes. What she did see, she loved.
i love that smile
Zoey continued to be a sleepy little girl. She had a bit of a tummy ache this evening, and it was after I had eaten some yogurt. It appears as though she is taking after her big sister and is lactose intolerant. At least we know early, it will save us a lot of crying and long nights.

Welcome Home!

Friday, April 4th, 2008

The doc checked out Linds and the baby this morning and everything looked good. We brought Zoey home around 10 in the morning. She wasn’t real happy about getting dressed or the car ride.

It’s really interesting how different it is with Zoey then it was with Hadley. It’s actually nice to know that a baby can cry for more than 3 seconds without it causing any real damage. It also just feels really different. With Hadley, we felt like we had no clue as to what to do and everything was so weird and scary. This time around, it’s just like, “Whatever, we’ve done this before.”

welcome home We were welcomed home by Hadley and Grandma who had written and drawn messages on the sidewalk and made a nice sign that they hung in the window. Lindsey was really grateful to have some time with Hadley and to be out of the hospital. That and the fact that it’s 50 degrees and it’s supposed to just keep getting nicer.

Melanie Wilkinson hooked us up with her famous steak & cheese’s for lunch and I think it’s one of the best gifts anyone can receive.

This evening went fairly well. Hadley never actually took a nap this afternoon, so she was on edge. Grandma made meatloaf for dinner and it was great! Afterwards, I took Hadley for a walk around town and she passed out before we got home. I woke her up and she got a bath from Grandma.

Again she didn’t want to go to bed, but I kept putting her back into bed (without milk) and finally she fell asleep. I figure that she isn’t falling asleep with the milk and then she wets the bed, so I’m gonna try and stick to this and hopefully it will work out.

Zoey is currently out of bed in Grandma’s arms. Big surprise.

Day 2

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

posing for dad

Lindsey had her surgery this morning and everything went really well. Zoey sat in a chair with me all morning and we watched John Carpenter’s The Thing. Once Lindsey was awake, she made me change the channel to some lame makeover show. I guess she did just birth a child and have surgery, so I’ll let her this time.

We had some friends stop by and the day went by great. Zoey is really sleepy and spent a majority of the day doing just that.

I had to work in the afternoon, but then went back to the hospital. Grandma and Hadley brought us some dinner and we ate until Hadley was just too excited to stick around any more. Grandma took her home and gave her a bath. Later I came home and attempted to put Hadley down for bed. After two hours of her getting up with random questions, excuses and other manipulation attempts, she finally passed out and so did I.

Zoey Belle is here!

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Zoey Lindsey called me this morning at work and said that her contractions were starting, but then by the end of the conversation, decided they weren’t that bad and told me to stay.

A short while later, she calls again and asks if I’ll come home and play with Hadley and just be ready in case. Hadley and I played with Play-Doh and watched part of a movie while Lindsey cleaned the house from top to bottom. Jenna called and said to bring Hadley over so that she could take a nap and we wouldn’t have to worry about her if Linds went into labor.

So we took Hadley over and Lindsey decided it was time to go to the hospital. We got into the room at 12:30pm and the contractions were getting pretty consistent. The nurses were doing their thing and then Lindsey’s water broke. She immediately dilated and the contractions got pretty painful. It wasn’t too much longer before she got the epidural and was feeling much better.

At 2:00pm the doc showed up and Lindsey was ready to push. It only took 20 minutes and Zoey Belle came into the world. She was so beautiful/unhappy. The cries were worth it to finally see our new little girl. At first she looked a lot like Hadley, but then she began to take shape and it appears she looks a little more like Lindsey than me, which is probably a good thing.

Hadley came with Grandma and Papa and seemed to enjoy holding Zoey. I gather this from the fact that she wanted to hold Zoey permanently. Hadley either was happy to see her little sister, or just excited to have Grandma and Papa in town. Either way, she was good with her and laughed when Zoey gave her a kiss.

Zoey ate next and then basically slept the rest of the day. Linds is getting her surgery in the morning and then it’ll be hanging at the hospital for a day or so until we can go home. We are just so grateful to have Zoey here and to know that God has blessed us with the two best girls in the world!

Play-doh and Ice Cream

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

playdoh snake! Hadley had a little bit of a rough night last night. Oh, wait, let me rephrase that. I am sure her night was great, but mine and Eric’s wasn’t so peaceful. Hadley woke up upset, so Eric and I both went to calm her. After a while she was fine, so we went back to bed. About an hour later I awoke to a little face right next to mine in bed, smiling saying “hi” and then “night-night.” I was too tired to stop this so she got a treat of sleeping with mom and dad. THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. We were up before the sun was, but fortunately, Hadley was great today.

She was excited to go to the doctor for Zoey’s appointment. We found out that not much is changing, and the Doctor would like to induce Monday morning if nothing happens in the next week. Hadley was excited about listening to the baby, and wanted to know when we will bring her home.

After a lengthy nap (mine and hers) we awoke to a package sent from Nana. Hadley wanted to use everything in the box, but decided to settle with the play-doh. She loved making snakes, balls, snowmen and eventually a snail. When Eric got home the creations became much more creative and they spent some time sculpting.

We then took a quick trip to Walmart, where Hadley again was an Angel (and got a push pop as a special treat) and came home to fix Eric’s favorite supper of hamburgers with potatoes. Hadley’s favorite part was desert which was ice cream. She licked the bowl clean and was swept off to a bath shortly after, where she got to play with more new toys from Nana.

Despite our sleepless night, it turned out to be a fantastic day.

Hadley always makes me laugh
