Transitions

August 22nd, 2009

Well, our summer is starting to wind down, and I am a little bit sad, but I am getting excited for the fall weather. Our days at the pool are getting fewer and farther between, but we have gotten Hadley’s bike out more often to just ride around and spend time outside. It is nice that the weather hasn’t been blazing hot and it has allowed us to do more outside during the daytime hours.

Today, Eric went to see a movie, so I took the girls to the park. I thought that I could just let Hadley ride her bike, but made a huge mistake. For some reason, I took them to the park that is straight uphill from our house. Silly me. As fun as it was to push Zoey in the stroller one handed, and pull Hadley on the bike uphill, I don’t think we will do that again anytime soon.

This week I also started to watch a little girl in the afternoons. She is super sweet and the girls have been loving having a little one around. I was a little worried about Zoey and how she would do having to share me, but she has been great. She shares her toys and everything.

Zoey also has a new obsession. Play doh is her all time favorite thing these days. Some days we take it away because she tries to eat it/lick it, but other days she squishes it around and puts it in the container and then takes it out again. Her vocabulary is growing and some of her words are getting clearer. She is just happy all the time, and rarely needs time outs (which I am excited about.) Zoey also has made a new best friend. Eric and my friend, Gerry, is living with us for a bit and Zoey is loving it. Every time he is around, she goes running into his arms and just gets giddy. She follows him around everywhere that she can.

Hadley has moved on to a phase in life where she likes to ask a lot of questions. She is very inquisitive about pretty much everything, and it is getting more difficult to explain some things to her. She is still obsessed with stuffed animals and anything that has to do with dogs or puppies. Hadley also is all registered to start tap and ballet lessons in a few weeks. We are going to an open house later this week to meet her teacher.
As for preschool, she is registered to start next year. I am going to savor my last year with her and spend it teaching her things that are “non-academic.” Hadley’s bible teacher said she has extremely good manners, and I think that is important.
